OAS Electoral Mission in Bolivia begins activities ahead of August 17 elections

The Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Bolivia, led by former Minister of Interior of Colombia Juan Fernando Cristo, has begun its deployment and activities ahead of the upcoming general elections on August 17.
Over the weekend, the Mission observed technical tests of the preliminary results transmission system. It was also present during the process of assembling ballot boxes in La Paz.
The OAS/EOM is comprised of 87 observers from 19 countries. On election day, the OAS/EOM will be present in all nine departments of the country. The Mission will also observe overseas voting in Buenos Aires (Argentina), São Paulo (Brazil), Santiago de Chile (Chile), and Barcelona (Spain).
During its stay in the country, the Mission is analyzing key aspects of the electoral process, such as organization, technology, and electoral justice, as well as campaign financing, among other issues. In addition to conducting direct observation activities, the team is holding meetings with a wide range of actors, including government representatives, national and departmental electoral authorities, candidates, and members of civil society and academia. The goal of these meetings is to obtain a comprehensive and balanced view of the elections.
This is the twenty-third (23rd) Electoral Mission that the OAS has deployed in Bolivia. The EOM is made possible by contributions from Canada, Chile, Colombia, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Peru, Spain, and the United States.
